Map showing system names. The story begins in the Woll system, named after a moon of some importance.

Factions

Starbound Directive

Developed from the ruins of a small set of high-tech worlds, the Directive operates as a loose corpocracy, with a collective ‘corporate congress’ deciding policy between member states and outside the directive. Internal politics and law are left to individual worlds to manage.

Principality of Ahmeia

Based on the system of Atromos, the Principality is a powerful religiously-backed faction in this sector, having recovered reasonably well from the effects of the Scream. They are currently pursuing rapid expansion into nearby systems to expand Monazite mining, which is an important material in the creation of spike drive engines.

Hegira

Born from a large Mandate mining colony, Hegira (named after the current ruling family) is based on the desert world Panella. They utilise a large fleet of transport ships to move ice into the inner system and retain a monopoly on water assets.

Courtesans

Home to what could be described as the true cultural descendants of the Mandate, the Courtesans are based on the planet Yunsa. Due to a known recurring apocalyptic astronomical event, much of the planet’s surface is rendered uninhabitable approximately every 90 years, resulting in this society hoarding knowledge and culture on large orbital space stations.

Epsilon

Established from recovered pretech bio-augment prototypes, Epsilon now represents the collective consciousness of thousands of people, integrated into a clustered hivemind. While mostly secretive, the hivemind has on occasion invited non-linked personnel to provide oversight as independent auditors and contractors in some of their large-scale projects.

Jaba

Beastmasters over a harsh, deadly planet. They have ample supplies of weapons to sell to anyone who can pay up. Unofficially, they have been suggested as a main supplier to many rebellion groups throughout the sector to help maintain tension.
